Noted Acoma potter Lucy Martin Lewis is the mother of grandmother of many well-known potters. She is the mother of Anne Lewis Hansen and the mother-in-law of Rita Lewis, both of whose works are also represented in the CAS pottery

Description Effigy jar in the form of a human head with modeled nose and ears; Exterior surfaces are scraped very smooth and covered with a white slip; Eyes, eyebrows, lips, and nostrils are all painted black; Top of head is painted with two fine-line diamond shapes and series of black triangles to depict hair; Pair of corn kernels hang by white thread from perforation at bottom of each ear; Perforated nostrils on nose allow effigy to be fired without breaking; Artist’s signature “J. LENO ACOMA N.M.” is printed in block letters on base. Juana Leno is the mother of Rose Leno Chavez and Joyce Leno Barreras, both of whose work is also represented in the CAS collections.
